SCHOOL VISITS
We can provide tours to students looking at the design and history of key vehicles in the collection. The tours are suited to secondary school students. Duration of tour is approximately 1 hour.
Similarly we can conduct tours to primary school groups and provide activity sheets to enhance the visit. To complete the activity sheets students will need to be separated into small groups with a supervisor. Durations would be approximately 1 ½ hours dependent on the time teachers allocate to the activity sheets.
We also have an Italian language activity kit. More information below.
Some secondary schools have used the car collection as a basis for an art activity with students being directed by their teachers to sketch various design aspects of vehicles. Duration would be approximately 1 -1 ½ hours. The art activity could be incorporated into the Docklands Art Journey. Visit www.docklands.com.au for further information.
FURTHER SCHOOL VISIT INFORMATION
Ratios and Supervision
The Fox Collection requires 1 adult per 5 children supervision ratio for the visit. For safety of both visitors and vehicles, students will require close supervision at all times.
For all groups attending, the maximum number at any given time is limited to 30 students plus supervisors.
Amenities
The Queen’s Warehouse is a heritage listed building. It does have its limitations especially in moving groups through the building and providing suitable amenities.
If it is required for students to have their snack break the wooden floor area downstairs can be used. Please discuss this requirement with us when you are planning your tour. Students will need to remain seated in the allocated area when eating and drinking. Toilet amenities are in the Queen Warehouse.
Alternatively, there is parkland area directly behind our building with picnic and toilet amenities (5 min walk). Interactive play structures have been installed in the parkland which also offers some lovely walkways. The city tourist tram stop is also adjacent to this area.
The closest food or drink amenities are a 5 minute walk from our building and probably more suited to the demands of office workers.
During winter, even though we have some heating, the upper area of the Queen’s Warehouse can be quite cold. Therefore visitors are advised to dress warmly during the winter months.
Disability access to the first floor of the Queens Warehouse is currently unavailable. However there is ramp access to ground floor of the warehouse where some of the vehicles can be viewed. First floor access to view the remainder of the car collection is by staircase only (24 stairs in total).
Docklands area
You may like to consider including a tour at Etihad Stadium or simply wander around the new Docklands precinct.
Costs
$8 per student GST inclusive. There is no charge for teachers and supervisors.
Once schools confirm the numbers to attend and provide a contact name with a postal address, we can arrange for a tax invoice to be issued directly to the school.

Al volante Education Program Visit
Al volante (At the wheel) is a collection of Italian activities for teachers and students. This resource contains suggested pre and post visit activities and activities students can complete while on a visit to the Fox Classic Car Collection. The Al volante resource has been created for the Early, Middle and Later Years Italian classroom and is based on Lindsay Fox’s Classic Car Collection.
The aim of the Al volante program is to provide teachers and students with a focus on the world of automobiles and to provide a stimulus for using the Italian language. Students can consider how different materials are used for different purposes, explore and observe variations in manufacture, consider the development of automobiles within our society along with trends and stories attached some vehicles.
The program can form part of a longer unit of work, which can include visits to other partners in the automotive industry and link in with alternative science and technology programs. Al volante can also link with SOSE, the Visual Arts and English curriculum areas as part of an integrated unit of work.
